I'm a guy who loves telling stories and has had the privilege of making a living by doing just that.
My professional career began nearly 20 years ago, as a student at the University of Texas, where I brought to life all manner of sporting events for the reader who wasn't lucky enough to have seats in the press box. Since then, I've written about everything from personal finance news and bank regulatory compliance to sports and hard news. I even dabbled in marketing -- spending a year at an interactive agency where I worked on web projects for several companies and learned a great deal -- but I've always gotten the most joy from telling stories and sharing experiences with regular folks.
Over the years, my writing has been featured in the Houston Chronicle, Dallas Morning News, Associated Press, American Banker and others. I have also shaped web content in leadership roles with several sites, including the Austin American-Statesman and KXAN.com.
Currently, I'm a Managing Editor at CreditCards.com in Austin, Texas. I work with an award-winning editorial team to arm the average consumer with the knowledge they need to avoid being taken advantage of by credit card firms. No small task, that. The job allows to use my all the skills I've developed in 14 years of creating web content -- including coding, writing, photo and video editing, design, product management and more -- and gives me the chance to grow new ones. I've produced live interviews for the likes of CNN. I've even gotten to work on a live webcast with the White House. Yeah, that White House.
I'm also passionate about fiction writing. I am a member of the Writer's League of Texas and have just recently finished a guest blog post for Scribe, the Writers' League's official blog. Currently, I am focused on finishing my manuscript, a fictional, football-drenched look at the impact of impending fatherhood on a man's relationship with those closest to him. The story is inspired largely by changes I've seen in myself since the birth of my son.
