About Money Expert Matt Schulz

Hi there! I am a nationally recognized money expert with more than a decade of experience in helping Americans make smarter decisions about their money.

My day job

I am Chief Credit Analyst at LendingTree. During more than a decade in the personal finance space, I have appeared on many of the nation’s best-known news outlets, such as:

  • ABC World News Tonight
  • The Today Show
  • CBS Evening News
  • CNBC-TV
  • Fox Business Network
  • And more.

I have also been quoted numerous times by The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, Bloomberg.com and other top media outlets throughout the nation. (Check out the In The News page for some recent examples.) and have written for many publications, including Business Insider, CBS MoneyWatch and American Banker.

In addition, I  have spoken at financial conferences around the country and am available for future bookings as well. (Use the Contact Me page on the site to contact me about speaking opportunities.)

Prior to my current role at LendingTree, I was Senior Industry Analyst at CreditCards.com for more than four years. Before that, I worked as a journalist. I led online editorial teams for an investing education website, two TV stations, a college sports website and a newspaper. I found my true passion, however, in helping people make smarter decisions about their money.

My book

I’ve just signed my first book deal! I’m writing a personal finance book that will be published by Countryman Press, which is an imprint of W.W. Norton. More details to come. For more information, subscribe to my free Substack newsletter, Ask, Save, Earn.

My fundraising

My father passed in October 2020 after a long battle with multiple forms of cancer. Since he got sick, I’ve committed myself to raising money to wipe that disease off the face of the Earth. To this point, we’ve raised more than $5,000 to fund cancer research, but we can always do more. If you’re interested in donating, visit my GoFundMe page. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.

My life

I live with my wife and son in Austin, Texas. I graduated from the University of Texas with a journalism degree. I love to run and hike and do obstacle course races. (I’m doing my fifth Spartan Race in September of 2022.) I geek out about sports, travel, food and Star Wars, but mostly, I’m about spending as much time with my family as I can.

I’m also active on social media — where I post about all of my passions — so click the buttons below to check out what I’m up to:
